This month marks 10 years since I started MHC (MH Consulting Group), a milestone for which I feel incredibly grateful. Grateful for the many clients who trusted a small, values-led consultancy. Grateful for every colleague who has been part of the MHC team, bringing their expertise, calm thinking and good humour.
From the beginning, I believed it was possible to work for the public good from outside the public service. That idea still anchors me. Over the years it has been strengthened by something simple: stepping into our clients’ shoes, seeing the world as they do, understanding the pressures they carry, and delivering work that helps them succeed and create lasting value for the community.
What I’ve learnt is that impact comes from how you work, as well as the quality you deliver. At MHC, we roll up our sleeves. We stand alongside our clients when the issues are complex, political or unclear. We try to make sense of the noise and bring structure to uncertainty. We make the complex simple and we try to do it with kindness, steadiness, sensitivity and a lot of thought.
Looking back, I’m really proud of the contribution we’ve made to health research, education, universities, social housing, road safety, improving cancer, kidney and heart disease outcomes to name a few. This isn’t loud or flashy, the moments I treasure most are the quiet ones: when a client feels supported, a team gains clarity, or a tough piece of work suddenly becomes manageable.
To my team, clients and everyone who has been part of this 10-year journey, thank you. Your trust and collaboration have shaped us and seen us reach this fantastic milestone.
I look forward to doing more of this work with purpose, integrity and positive impact
We’ve grown from one desk and a big idea to a whole team that I’m proud of, but our mission is unchanged.
We’ll continue to listen carefully and to work thoughtfully to bring your ideas to fruition, whether that is by delivering a research strategy, designing your evaluation, designing or reviewing a new strategy or facilitating your workshop or meeting.
